Are you a

New Christian?

1. Why do we believe in the Bible?

As Christians believe that the Bible is fully inspired by God. This implies that the authors of each book were divinely guided and inspired by God. The Bible declares it in 2 Timothy 3:16-17:

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

The Bible is also the most sure word of prophecy:

2 Peter 1:19-21

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

As a new convert, it is likely that some doubts may come to mind on these issues: Is it possible that the Bible may be wrong? Can it contain errors? Is totally inspired by God?

There is no doubt that the Bible contains no errors. First, we must bear in mind that it is the only record that our God (omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent) left us, so that we might know Him and His will. For this reason alone God could never write a book flawed, false, faulty or not fully inspired by Him. As Christians, we must not let these doubts be sown into our minds by Satan, (Matthew 13:24-30) or torment us for they are false and unfounded.

The Bible is a masterpiece, from the first page to the last. It is full of wisdom and evidence that shows it could only have been written by God. A great substantiation, among many others, is the consistency and balance of the content of its message. This is seen from the first until the last book of the Bible. This is not surprising, since it is the only book that God left us so that we may know Him.

Importantly, the Bible was written by a total of 40 authors in three different continents, in three different languages, in a time-lapse of about 1600 years; and still no contradictions can be found in the message or its authors. This is the most significant example of the perfection with which God has left us a message. (If you think that there are contradictions in the Bible, please write your questions and we will gladly help clear any of your doubts).

More evidence is found in the Old Testament of the Bible where there are a total of 350 prophecies about Jesus Christ. Half of them were met and were recorded in the New Testament and the other half will be met at the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Aside from the evidence stated above, the Bible also shows its perfection and validity in fields such as:

Science

The Bible shows us advanced scientific knowledge that would not have been comprehensible in the time that it was written, and that have not been tested until recently with the technological advances that we are blessed with:

• Astronomy: The book of Job declares (Job 26:7) that the Earth is found floating and that nothing

sustains it. It is quite impressive to find such a scientific truth in a time (1500 years before Christ)

where the belief was that the Earth was sustained by animals (Hinduism) or by a giants (Atlas).

• Genesis 15:5 and Jeremiah 33:22 indicate to us that the stars in the heavens are too many to be

counted. Today this is a fact, but in that time it was believed that the number of the stars was limited

and therefore able to be counted. Astronomists such as Claudius Tolomeo (90 A.C – 168 A.C), estimated that the total number of the stars in the sky was less than 1700 (the Almagest).

• Isaiah 51:6 states that the earth will wear out like a garment. This means that the earth is getting older

and older just as the second Law of Thermodynamics has revealed.

Medicine

•The importance of blood in the mechanism of our body has only been understood completely in recent years. Up until 120 years ago, the ill were “bled” and many died because of these practices. Even so, the Bible in the book of Leviticus (17:11), written over 3000 years ago, declares that blood is the fountain of life:

“…11: For the life of the flesh is in the blood"

• During the terrible pandemic called Black Death that struck Europe, Africa and Asia in the fourteenth

century and that caused about 75 to 200 million deaths, patients who were sick or dead were kept in

the same rooms as the rest of the family. People often wondered why the disease was affecting so

many people at once. They attributed these propagations to "bad air" or "evil spirits".

Yet it is interesting to study the medical orders that God revealed in Leviticus, because this would

have saved many millions of lives. Arturo Castiglione wrote about the enormous importance of

medical law in the Bible in his book (The History of Medicine): "The laws against leprosy in Leviticus

13 can be considered as the first model of sanitary legislation."

The final proof that affirms our belief in the Bible is the fact that the Bible does what it declares: it transforms lives.

Why do we believe the Bible alone as the only book inspired by God?

Christians believe the Bible alone is the only book inspired by God and written entirely by Him. Christians do not accept any alteration in the message of the Bible, whether made by man, by an angel.... etc. The Bible declares this in many scriptures such as:

Galatians 1:7-9

7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Books like the Quran, the Book of Mormon and others, are not accepted as they contradict the teachings of the Bible. (Please write us and ask about those differences and we will gladly reply with a biblically based answer)

Conclusion

It is important to consider what Jesus Christ declared in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away…” This statement has been completely fulfilled.  The Bible (including Christianity) has passed through times of persecutions and tribulations, in which the Bible was not able to be read, nor were Christians able to proclaim their faith. Despite all of these adversities against the Bible and its followers, the Bible has not been eliminated and no one will ever be able to do so.

The Bible, being the Best Seller (most copies sold) of all time; disrupts the ideas of “intellectual” thinkers like Voltaire, who predicted that 100 years after his death (1778), the Bible was going to be completely forgotten. Man will think and predict, but God always has the last word, Amen!

Romans 1:22 professing to be wise, they became fools ...
